We have identified an underlying issue in the hospitality industry; there are no online directories that sufficiently inform customers about the services of service providers such as bars, restaurants and lodging establishments. There are also no honest reviews of services provided.
Sequel to this, Hayche Reviews was birthed to solve the problem of finding good hospitality establishments to patronize and read sincere reviews about these establishments.
We have adopted the responsibility of safeguarding the African hospitality narrative. We believe, it is up to each of us to be vigilant about the way African hospitality is depicted. Best of all, we have the digital tools to keep the narrative truthful.
Thus our maiden review is of Roots Restaurant and Cafe situated in Enugu State Nigeria.

I have been to Roots Restaurant and Cafe a lot of times for business meetings, meet up with friends or just to have a good meal alone. However, on this particular visit, I was going as a reviewer, and it’s really funny how once you are reviewing a place, you begin to notice the things you didn’t previously.
During this latest visit, my hospitality antennas were honed to watch out for the little details I would have otherwise overlooked. This time around, I was smiling inwardly, perhaps a bit sheepishly, as though I held a sweet secret no one else knew about.
It was a rainy evening, I was cold and in search of warmth and comfort. Stepping into the restaurant was a welcome feeling, the ambience was warm and the sweet aroma of dishes appealed to my already rumbling stomach. I particularly love the decor of Roots; a mixture of modern and traditional African motifs.
The chairs and tables are all stylishly carved, polished wood and the central ceiling is made of inter woven raffia, which recalls relays a rich African culture and heritage. There are also African artefacts on the walls, and I always make a mental note to find similar artefacts for my home.
As I settled in, a smiling waitress, neatly dressed in African fabric approached my table and introduced herself as “Blessing“.
I ordered boiled yam and egg sauce with a glass of Chapman. My drink arrived within two minutes and Blessing informed me my food would be ready in fifteen minutes.
In exactly fifteen minutes more or less, my food arrived, well presented and quite delicious.
The food cost about a thousand three hundred (1, 300) Naira, (about $3.60) and my drink was a thousand (1, 000) Naira, (about $2.76)
I was quite satisfied with both the prompt and polite customer service, and delicious food at a reasonable price. On my way out, I received an effusive salute from the door man and he got a tip for that.
Overall, my experience at Roots Restaurant was a positive one. Roots Restaurant offers a clean and spacious environment, reasonably priced food, prompt service (especially if you are really hungry) and comparatively good customer service. The Restaurant also provides ample parking space.
